The Sangeet has become the party of the Indian wedding. There are choreographed family dances, a DJ, sometimes a live singer, and a dress code that can be anything from Bollywood retro to all-black. The invitation sets that mood before anyone arrives.
A good Sangeet invite does three things. It tells guests the vibe, it gives them the dress code early enough to shop, and it nudges the performers to sign up on time. Here is wording for each kind of guest.
What to put in a Sangeet invitation
- Names, date and start time. Sangeets usually start at 7 or 8 pm.
- Venue with map and parking note. Banquet halls and hotel lawns can be confusing at night.
- Dress code or theme. Give it two or three weeks ahead so people can plan outfits.
- A line for performers. "Want to perform? Tell us by 1 December" saves a lot of chasing.
- Dinner timing. Guests like to know if dinner is at 9 or after the performances.

Invitation for performers
Send this to the cousins and friends you expect to dance. It goes out before the main invite.
You are on the list! We would love you to perform at the Sangeet on 12 December. Pick your song and send it to Riddhi by 1 December, so we can plan the order. Each act gets about four minutes.
How to keep the Sangeet running on time
Cap the performances. Twelve acts of four minutes is almost an hour. Beyond that, guests get hungry and restless.
Order the acts by energy. Start with the kids, put the slow romantic songs in the middle, and end with the couple's dance and an open floor.
Share the order with the DJ a day before. Put the song list in one place so the DJ is not taking requests from twenty cousins.
Serve dinner during a break. A buffet opening halfway keeps the elders happy and gives performers time to change.
