The Haldi is the one function where guests are told to wear something they do not mind ruining. That single fact shapes the whole invitation. A Haldi invite has to sound warm, it has to carry the dress code clearly, and it has to give the exact time, because Haldi usually happens in the morning and late guests miss the best part.

Below you will find wording you can copy as it is, in Hindi and English, grouped by mood. After that there is a short checklist of what every Haldi invite must contain, and the mistakes we see most often.

What a Haldi invitation must include

Before the wording, get the details right. A beautiful line with the wrong time is worse than a plain line with the right one.

  • Whose Haldi it is. Name the bride or groom, and say whether it is a joint Haldi for both families.
  • Date and exact start time. Write "10:30 am" rather than "morning". Haldi is short.
  • Venue with a map link. Many Haldis happen at home or a farmhouse that is hard to find.
  • Dress code. Yellow, white or old clothes. Say it plainly.
  • What comes next. If lunch or the Mehendi follows, mention it so guests can plan the day.

A joint Haldi for both families

Some families now hold one Haldi for both the bride and the groom, especially at destination weddings. The wording should name both and make it clear both sides are hosting.

Joint Haldi (English)

Two families, one golden morning. Join us for the Haldi of Priya and Rahul on 12 December at 10 am, by the pool at Samode Palace. Come dressed in yellow and ready to get messy.

Mistakes to avoid

Leaving out the dress code. It is the number one reason guests feel awkward at a Haldi. One line fixes it.

Writing "morning" instead of a time. Haldi often lasts under two hours. A guest who arrives at noon may arrive after it ends.

Sending one long message for every function. When the Haldi, Mehendi and Sangeet are in one paragraph, guests remember none of them. A separate page per function, like the ones in an Invite App, works much better.

No RSVP for food. Haldi lunch is usually catered at home. Ask who is coming so you are not left with forty extra plates of puri.

Make the invite look as good as the wording

Wording is half the job. If you want the Haldi to have its own page with a yellow theme, the dress code, a map button and RSVP, see our Haldi, Mehendi and Sangeet invites. You can type any of the lines above into the design and preview it free before paying anything.

Frequently asked questions

What should I write in a Haldi invitation?+

Whose Haldi it is, the date, an exact start time, the venue with a map link, the dress code (usually yellow or white) and what follows, such as lunch or the Mehendi.

Should the Haldi invite be separate from the wedding invite?+

It helps. A separate page or card for the Haldi keeps the morning time and dress code clear. Many families send one link with a page per function.

What colour should guests wear to a Haldi?+

Yellow is the classic choice, with white and pastel shades also common. Tell guests to wear clothes that can get stained, because turmeric does not wash out easily.

Can I write the Haldi invite in Hinglish?+

Yes. For cousins and friends, Hinglish feels natural and friendly. For elders, Hindi in Devanagari or simple English reads better.
