Baby ceremonies are small, emotional and very family centred. The Namkaran gives your child a name in front of the people who will watch them grow. The Mundan, the first haircut, is a blessing for health and a fresh start. Both invitations should feel gentle and joyful, and both should work around a baby's sleep and feeding times.

Here is wording for each ceremony in Hindi and English, with a few cute options written as if the baby is inviting the guests.

Planning tips for baby ceremonies

Time it around the baby. Late morning, after a feed and a nap, is usually the calmest time. Avoid evening ceremonies for very young babies.

Keep the guest list close. Newborns pick up infections easily. Many families invite only close relatives to the Namkaran and hold a bigger lunch later.

Mention the venue clearly for a Mundan. Mundans are often held at a temple, a river ghat or a family deity's shrine. Give the exact temple name and a map pin.

Should you reveal the name in the invite? For a Namkaran, many families keep the name a surprise and reveal it at the ceremony. Others share it in the invite. Both are fine. If it is a surprise, say "Come and find out!"

Ask about gifts gently. If you would prefer blessings only, a line like "Your blessings are the best gift" is enough.

Annaprashan and first birthday

Many families combine the Namkaran or Mundan with another milestone, such as the Annaprashan (first rice feeding) or the first birthday. If you do, give each its own line so guests understand the order of the day.

Combined (English)

Join us for Vivaan's Mundan at 9 am at the temple, followed by his first birthday lunch at home at 1 pm.

Make it as sweet as the baby

A baby ceremony invite with soft pastel colours, a photo of the little one and a map button is lovely to receive. See our Namkaran designs, Mundan designs and first birthday invites. Add your wording, preview free and share one link.

Frequently asked questions

What do you write in a Namkaran invitation?+

Begin with a blessing, say it is the naming ceremony of your baby boy or girl, then give the date, time and venue, and invite guests to bless the child. You may reveal the name or keep it as a surprise.

What is the right age for a Mundan?+

Most families do the Mundan in the first or third year, at a date fixed by the family priest. The invite should mention the temple or venue clearly.

Can the invitation be written from the baby?+

Yes. Cute lines written as if the baby is inviting guests are very popular, especially for friends. For elders, a traditional version from the parents works better.

How early should I send a baby ceremony invite?+

One to two weeks before is usually enough, since these are smaller family events. Send outstation family a little earlier.
