Save the Date Invitations: Ideas, Examples and Wording

A save the date is a promise, not the full invitation. When to send it, which form to choose, and wording examples that work.

Save the Date Invitations: Ideas, Examples and Wording

In short

A save the date announces the couple and the wedding date, and sometimes the city, months before the full invitation. It is short, joyful, and easy to forward. Send it six to nine months ahead for a wedding with many travelling guests, or three to four months ahead for a local wedding. The full invitation, with venues and event details, follows later.

What it means

A save the date invitation is a brief announcement, usually one screen or one card. It carries the couple's names, the wedding date, and often the city or venue, plus a photo and a line like "Save the date". It does not carry the full event schedule, dress code, or RSVP, because those details may still change. Its job is to get the date into calendars early, especially for guests who must book travel and leave from work.

What your invitation can do

A MyIndiAura save the date can be a beautiful single screen invitation, or the opening of a fuller invitation that grows as details are confirmed. Guests can save the date from the invitation, forward it to family, and return later for the full schedule once it is added. Because it is digital, a changed date or city can be corrected in one place, instead of through a chain of messages. It also sets the visual tone for the wedding, so the full invitation later feels like a continuation, not a surprise.

Options to consider

Save the dates come in a few simple forms.

  • Photo card. One favourite photo, names, and date. Warm, personal, and quick to make.
  • Illustrated card. Artwork in your wedding theme, with names and date. Good when photos are not ready yet.
  • Short film teaser. Fifteen seconds of motion and music, ending on the date. Good for sharing widely.
  • City and date card. Names, date, and city only, for weddings where the venue is still being finalised.
  • Countdown style. A date reveal with a gentle countdown feel, for couples who enjoy a playful tone.

Style tips

Keep a save the date simpler than the invitation. One photo, or one motif, and the date large enough to read at a glance. Do not add event timings, dress codes, or venue details you are not sure of yet, because correcting them later creates confusion. Match the colours to your wedding theme if you know it, but do not worry if the theme is undecided. A clean, joyful card beats a detailed but uncertain one every time.

A save the date should take five seconds to understand, and leave a smile that lasts much longer.

What you need

  • The couple's names, as you want them announced
  • The wedding date, confirmed by both families
  • The city, and the venue if it is confirmed
  • One or two photos you love, or a theme choice if photos are not ready
  • A short line, such as "We are getting married" or "Save the date"

How to share it

  1. Share with parents and close family first, so any error is caught early.
  2. Share with out of town guests next, since they need the most planning time.
  3. Share with the wider family and friends.
  4. Ask guests to save the date in their calendars, and offer to answer travel questions.
  5. Follow up later with the full invitation, with venues, timings, and RSVP.

What it costs

A save the date can be made as part of a MyIndiAura invitation. The prices are ₹499 for a Cinematic Invite, ₹399 for an Invite App, and ₹99 for an Invitation Suite. For a simple save the date, the suite is often enough, and you can move to a fuller form for the main invitation if you wish.

How to create yours

  1. Confirm the date and city with both families.
  2. Pick one photo, or one theme, for the card.
  3. Browse the designs on MyIndiAura and choose a style that fits your wedding.
  4. Add names, date, and city, and preview the card on your phone.
  5. Share with family first, then with all your guests.
