How to Make a Digital Wedding Invitation: A Step by Step Guide

Everything you need to create a digital wedding invitation that looks beautiful, works on every phone and tells you who is coming.

A digital wedding invitation used to mean a JPEG of a printed card. Today it can be a short film with your names in it, a mini website with every function, or a stack of designed pages you can share and print. All of them can be made in an evening, without a designer, if you prepare in the right order.

Here is the process we recommend, step by step.

Step 1: Choose the format

There are three main formats. Pick based on how many functions you have and how you want guests to feel.

  • Cinematic Invite (video). A filmed opening, such as palace doors or a temple at dawn, with your names, date and venue appearing on screen. Best for the big announcement and for Instagram. From ₹499 in the sale.
  • Invite App (link). A mobile page with each function, a map, dress codes and RSVP. Best for multi-day weddings. From ₹399.
  • Invitation Suite (pages). Beautifully designed card pages you can send as images or print. Best for elders and families who love a card. From ₹99.

Many couples combine them: a Cinematic Invite to announce, and an Invite App for the details. Compare them on our pricing page.

Step 2: Collect every detail first

Before you open any design tool, write this down in one place. It saves hours of edits.

  • Both full names, and how you want them written (first names, or with family names).
  • Parents' names, if they appear on the invite.
  • Every function: name, date, start time, venue name and full address.
  • A map link for each venue. Open Google Maps, drop a pin, tap Share.
  • Dress codes for each function.
  • An RSVP deadline.
  • A phone number guests can call.

Step 3: Write the wording

Decide the tone: traditional, modern or playful. Write one main message and one short line per function. If you need ideas, our guides have ready lines for WhatsApp wedding invitations, Haldi, Mehendi and Sangeet.

Read it aloud. If a sentence is hard to say, it will be hard to read on a phone.

Step 4: Pick a design that matches your wedding

Choose a theme that reflects the wedding itself. A Rajasthani palace wedding suits carved arches and gold. A South Indian muhurtham suits temple gopurams and jasmine. A beach wedding in Goa suits soft blues. Browse all designs by occasion and style.

Check that the text is easy to read on a small screen. Thin gold text on a busy background looks lovely in a mockup and impossible on a phone in sunlight.

Step 5: Add functions, maps and RSVP

This is where a digital invite beats paper. Give each function its own section with its time, venue and map. Turn on RSVP so guests can say yes or no for each function, and add a meal preference if your caterer needs it.

Step 6: Preview on your own phone

Open the preview on your phone, not just the laptop. Check:

  • Names spelled right, in every place.
  • Dates and days of the week match. "Saturday 12 December" must really be a Saturday.
  • Every map link opens the right place.
  • The music, if any, is not too loud.

Send the preview to two family members and ask them to find one mistake each.

Step 7: Share it the right way

Call elders first and then send the link. Send to individuals before posting in family groups. Use our guide on WhatsApp invitation wording for the message to go with the link.

Step 8: Track replies and remind

Check your RSVP list a week after sending. Gently remind people who have not replied. The day before each function, send a short reminder with the map.

Common mistakes

Too much text on one screen. Split it across pages.

Sending a heavy video file. Large files often fail to download. A link plays instantly.

Forgetting the year in the date. Guests save screenshots. Include the year.
